In August/September of this year I was an artist in residence at SERDE in Aizpute, Latvia, to create new embroideries based off the nature and landscape there, and this post shows one of the six works from this project. You can see the full project page and read about the concept here, this page is meant to show some more details on the individual embroidery.
I was in Latvia as an artist in residence in August/September, and this embroidery was started during a walk through the forest. It had been raining on and off the whole day, but the sun had just come through and cast a beautiful light on the fresh autumn landscape. I wanted to capture the autumn colors in this embroidery, the brown, purple and reds of the wet ground and the golden orange and fresh yellow green of the rainy light shining on the trees. This little spot felt like a tiny tribute to autumn and so it seemed perfect for an embroidery with that same idea.
