In August/September of this year I was an artist in residence at SERDE in Aizpute, Latvia, to create new embroideries based off the nature and landscape there, and this post shows one of the six works from this project. You can see the full project page and read about the concept here, this page is meant to show some more details on the individual embroidery.
I arrived in the countryside of this gorgeous Baltic country in August, when it was still summer, and stayed until mid September, as the autumn was quietly settling in. The day I started this embroidery was unusually warm and sunny, like a last salute to summer and I walked to this lake just outside the village, where people were fishing, swimming and just generally enjoying themselves outdoors. The water was so flat, like a mirror, reflecting all the colors and brightness of the day, like a mirror to summer days. I embroidered it to capture that moment, as a memory of summer.
