From mid May to early July 2018 I was an artist in residence at Art Villa Garikula, in Akhalkalaki/Garikula, in the country of Georgia. Surrounded by the incredible nature of the Caucasus and friendly people of Georgia, I took those two months to experiment with embroidering portraits. I wanted to look for a human element in my needlepaintings, but while the landscapes always explore a collective nature, a human portrait is an individual. The embroideries I made in this time are all experimentations searching for the symbiosis of man and nature, the human individual and the natural collective. To make the human less human and the nature more personal and bring them together in one piece.
The title of this project, ერთგული(pronounced ert-guli)is the Georgian word for soulmate, literally translated to one heart, referring to the search for nature and people becoming one.
Some of the works have their own post with more pictures and writings.
